Discover Magazine has chosen its annual Top 10 Astronomy Pictures. The photos were chosen for beauty, for scientific interest, or both. Some photos are just cool, others are a little frightening, but hopefully they all will make you think and move you in some way.
This amazing photos shows a Martian landslide caught by the HiRISE camera on board the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. This was a routine picture that just happened to snag the dust cloud from an avalanche. The cliff on the left is 700 meters high with a 60 degree slope, and the dust cloud is about 180 meters across.
