For thousands of years, people have been creating maps of the world around them. It all started with cave paintings, then drawings in the sand, maps made of sticks and shells, black-and-white pencil sketches, richly colored manuscripts, three-dimensional models and, more recently, satellite images and computer-generated simulations.
Since the Renaissance period, cartographers have collected paper maps to create atlases. The Cyberspace Atlas is the first comprehensive atlas of the Internet and World Wide Web.
